What is the Education Record App?
The Department for Education (DfE) has created a new Education Record App for all Year 11 pupils. The app allows pupils to see important information about their education in one safe place.
This includes:
This includes:
- their name, date of birth and address
- which schools they have attended
- their official exam results, such as GCSEs
- information about any support needs
This information is issued securely and directly to each pupil by school staff.
The Education Record helps pupils when they move on to sixth form, college or training, because they can share their information quickly and safely without needing paper documents.
How pupils get their Education Record
To receive their education record:
- A staff member who knows the pupil verifies their identity.
- The pupil downloads the Education Record App onto their own phone or device.
- The staff member generates a QR code, which the pupil must scan using the app.
-
The pupil can then view and use their education record.
The school cannot issue the record without the pupil being present, because the identity check must happen in person.
Can parents have a login or see the record through their own devices?
No — parents cannot log in to the app.
The Education Record App is designed only for pupils, and the record is issued directly to the pupil’s device. Parents and carers cannot have their own login, cannot be issued the record, and cannot view the app as the pupil. However, parents continue to have rights under education regulations to request information directly from the school if needed.
What if my child doesn’t have a phone?
If a pupil does not have a mobile phone, there are still options such as a tablet, as long as they can download the app.
If no device is available for ongoing use, parents may request the information from school through normal procedures.
