At The Meadows Academy, we are committed to ensuring every young person feels safe, supported and able to thrive. As part of this commitment, we are currently working towards achieving the Beat Asthma School Award, a national recognition for schools that provide high‑quality care and awareness for pupils with asthma.
Our Commitment to Pupils With Asthma
In line with our school vision — Belonging, Becoming, Beyond — we want all pupils with asthma to participate fully in school life. We are dedicated to:
- Making sure all staff receive up‑to‑date asthma awareness training
- Keeping accurate asthma action plans for every pupil who needs one
- Ensuring quick and safe access to reliever inhalers
- Creating an inclusive environment where pupils feel confident and supported
- Working closely with parents, carers and health professionals to keep children safe
What We Have Achieved So Far
We are proud of the progress we have already made, including:
-
All staff completing asthma awareness training
-
A named staff asthma champion
- Updated procedures for managing medical needs
- Clear systems for storing and accessing inhalers
- Increased awareness across school through assemblies and tutor activities
Our Next Steps
To complete the Beat Asthma Award, we are focusing on:
- More student‑led awareness activities
- Workshops and information sessions for parents and carers
Working Together
We want every child to feel a sense of belonging in our school community, to keep becoming the best version of themselves, and to thrive beyond their time at The Meadows Academy. Our work towards the Beat Asthma Award reflects that commitment.
If you have any questions about asthma support in school, please contact the school office and we will direct you to our staff asthma champion.
