Year 7 Share Their Voices

Year 7 Share Their Voices in Remembrance Poetry Anthology
Following their participation in the National Literacy Trust’s “Poems for Remembrance” workshop with poet Tomos Roberts, our Year 7 students have completed a moving collection of original poems (link here)
This anthology was presented to a local veteran during our Remembrance Day assembly, and each student will take home a copy to share with parents and carers. The poems reflect themes of sacrifice, gratitude, and hope, showing how deeply our students engaged with the meaning of Remembrance.
Here are just a few excerpts from their work:
“The breeze whistling,
The big brown dust,
The air moving,
Dancing poppies in the wind.”

— Lennox
“The red poppy on a stage
Proud and graceful
Glow like light
Like a little lamp in the dark.”

— Evelyn
“Silence to remember the fallen soldiers
Peace to honour them,
Love to act for them.
That is Remembrance Day.”

— Braxton
“In the lost forgotten fields of Flanders,
Blood pumps into the poppies.
Though the flowers look good,
It reminds us of the dark and death that is past.”

— Luke
These poems are thoughtful and reflective, and we are incredibly proud of our Year 7 students for their creativity and empathy. This project has helped them connect with history and identity while building confidence in their writing.
We look forward to continuing to explore emotional literacy and personal expression through the power of words at The Meadows Academy.
