The Meadows Academy Raises Record £2,290 for Macmillan Cancer Support
Every September, The Meadows Academy comes together for a cause close to many hearts: the Macmillan Cancer Coffee Morning. This cherished tradition, led by the ever-dedicated Miss Atkinson for over a decade, brings warmth, generosity, and community spirit to life.
This year’s event was the most successful yet, raising an incredible £2,290—our highest total ever! Miss Atkinson’s tireless organisation ensured a table full of delicious cakes, a lively raffle, and a joyful atmosphere. She even hosted a second coffee morning with her friends to boost the fundraising total further.
Children baked cakes both at home and in school, contributing to the event in a meaningful way. For many, this was a Meadows Milestone—baking something beautiful and then giving it away, even for a great cause, can be a big emotional challenge.
The event wasn’t just about fundraising—it was about belonging, becoming, and going beyond, in true Meadows spirit. Staff and students alike enjoyed the treats, the laughter, and the shared purpose.
A Rights-Based Celebration
This coffee morning also reflects key principles from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child:
Article 31 – Leisure, Play and Culture
Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and recreational activities.
Our coffee morning was a joyful, creative event that blended learning with fun.
Article 6 – Life, Survival and Development
Every child has the right to life and to develop to their full potential.
Supporting Macmillan Cancer Support helps others survive and thrive, showing solidarity and compassion.
Well done, Miss Atkinson, and a huge thank you to all the staff, students, and families who made this event such a success. You’ve shown that kindness, creativity, and community can make a real difference.
