Year 10 Explore Multiculturalism at Durham’s Oriental Museum

Year 10 pupils from The Meadows Academy enjoyed an enriching educational visit to the Oriental Museum in Durham, where they deepened their understanding of multiculturalism, diversity, global citizenship, and British values.
Throughout the day, students engaged thoughtfully with a wide range of exhibits showcasing cultures from across Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. Staff accompanying the group praised their outstanding conduct, noting how respectfully, maturely, and enthusiastically they approached every aspect of the visit.

Paige, one of the attending students, reflected on the impact of the experience:
“The knowledge I gained from the multi-cultural visit will help me massively with my preparation towards GCSE Citizenship.”

Aston also shared his thoughts, adding:
“The trip to the Oriental Museum was brilliant. It helped me understand why the British values are so important to our country.”
After exploring the museum, the group enjoyed a Chinese buffet lunch, where many students embraced the challenge of using chopsticks—adding a fun, hands-on cultural experience to the day.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to broaden their worldviews, strengthen their understanding of global society, and reflect on the importance of mutual respect and tolerance—key principles both within school and beyond.
What a brilliant trip for Year 10!
