Odd Socks for World Down Syndrome Day

Today, staff and students at The Meadows Academy proudly wore odd socks to mark World Down Syndrome Day — a global event dedicated to raising awareness, promoting inclusion, and celebrating the lives and achievements of people with Down Syndrome.

The tradition of wearing brightly coloured, mismatched socks is part of the “Lots of Socks” campaign, which encourages conversation and symbolises the uniqueness of chromosomes. It’s a simple but powerful way for young people to show support, spark discussion and champion diversity within our school community.

A huge thank you to Miss Atkinson for delivering such a thoughtful and insightful assembly. Her message helped everyone understand why days like this matter and reminded us of the importance of kindness, acceptance and celebrating what makes each of us unique.
Today wasn’t just about odd socks — it was about belonging.
