International Day of Happiness was celebrated in truly vibrant style at The Meadows Academy, as students and staff came together to embrace a day filled with curiosity, creativity, and joy.
In English, we explored the fascinating history of humour—did you know the earliest recorded joke dates back thousands of years and was, surprisingly, about flatulence? It certainly set the tone for a day of laughter!
Maths brought its own twist of fun, as students tackled riddles and calculations to uncover the punchlines to a series of delightfully questionable jokes. One favourite: “How do you make 7 even? Remove the ‘s’.” No one claimed they were masterpieces—but they definitely sparked plenty of smiles.
Science lessons bubbled with excitement as students investigated the properties of bubbles before putting their knowledge into practice, creating and experimenting with giant bubbles of their own—alongside simply enjoying the magic of smaller ones.
In Humanities, creativity took to the skies as students designed, built, and flew their own kites. A special mention goes to Lennox in Year 7, whose kite soared impressively high above the academy—an uplifting sight for all.
In Art, students unleashed their creativity by designing a range of playful and expressive happy faces, filling the classroom with colour, character, and plenty of laughter.
The celebrations continued beyond the classroom, with students sharing “shout-outs” during tutor time, each accompanied by a KitKat—small gestures that served as powerful reminders of the importance of kindness, connection, and appreciation.
Throughout the day, the school’s ethos of Belonging, Becoming and Beyond was unmistakably present, reflected in the laughter, enthusiasm, and genuine sense of community shared by both students and staff.
