This year’s Children’s Mental Health Week focused on the theme of Belonging. Students explored what ‘belonging’ means, how it differs from ‘fitting in’, and how The Meadows Academy actively fosters a strong sense of belonging within its community.
Throughout the week, students participated in a range of breaktime and lunchtime activities designed to promote inclusion and connection. These included Mindful Boxing, aromatherapy arts and crafts, chocolate meditation, and “Choc and Chat” sessions, all aimed at encouraging shared experiences and strengthening relationships.
Students were also encouraged to ‘Use Their Voice’ by contributing ideas to support the work of the Student Councillors (Junior Leaders). Each form group completed a recording sheet, which representatives presented at the Student Council meeting on Friday.
During the week, students examined government statistics relating to sense of belonging within the wider community, including data concerning protected characteristic groups. Tutor groups also collaborated to create poems centred around the theme of belonging.
To conclude the week, all learners contributed decorated leaves and flowers reflecting what belonging means to them. These were added to the ‘Meadows Tree’, creating a powerful visual representation of our shared community and collective identity.
